I slept, read and watched TV throughout the day. Nothing elaborate. Nothing luxurious. I felt well-rested and happy. Simplicity can bring happiness too.
But happiness itself is complex. What is happiness? Is it:
a) seeing that smile on someone's face?
b) knowing that you have made a difference in someone's life?
c) being with your love ones?
d) finishing a piece of work?
e) buying something you have always wanted for a long time?
f) having a good meal?
g) going out to have fun?
h) succeeding in not being angry with that irritating someone?
g) eating and not getting fat?
..and the list goes on...
To me, happiness is all of the above.
So, is happiness dependent on things that happened to us, on the fulfillment of our goals, desires and luxuries or on other people? To a certain extent, I would agree that there is a postive co-relation. Agree because we are not living in the fairy tale land. We are humans, humans do get affected by others, most humans are materialistic at one point of their lives and humans have desires and goals.
The other rationale side of me also says that happiness should come from within ourselves. Only we can motivate ourselves to be happy. To acheive that, we should learn to be in control of our lives. I am learning and trying to walk the talk.
Yes happiness is indeed complex. It is unquantifiable and undefinable. It changes as life stages changes, it differs between men and women.
What is happiness to you?
