3rd Day at the symposium. *The ghost of AP Tan Ngoh Tiong* resurfaced yet again...this time early in the morning. We were having breakfast. A Thailand delegate was sitting at the table beside us. AP Tan suddenly plonked his plate in front of the Thailand delegate and asked 'Nobody is sitting here right?!' Well..we seriously did not see him anyway and suddenly POP he was right in front of us!! I mean AP Tan is a nice person..but also a very talkative person..and having to entertain him is.....not a very nice task...During tea break, he suddenly appeared from nowhere and grabbed me on the arm again and said: 'Ah! Singaporean come come take photo!!' We want to faint can!!
AP Tan and the daughter Faith would be travelling back to Singapore by coach in the afternoon. Poor Faith was complaining that she wanted to shop. She did not manage to get her manicure and AP Tan also refused to take her to Sungei Wang, saying that it was not safe..haha...poor lil' gal gal..
AP Tan said that he had to quit NUS because they didn't allow him to take no pay leave when he wanted to go the teach in the States. By the way he is now teaching in Augsburg College in Minnesota. He has been there for the past year. His 2 younger children and wife went with him; while his 2 older children are still in Singapore. http://www.augsburg.edu/msw/academics/faculty/tan.html
We went to Mid-valley in the afternoon. Cabbed there and it cost RM$11 (green cab) though there was no jam. We had lunch at 'Penang Cafe' and we ate penang laksa and it was sooo yummy!! Haven't ate that for the longest time!!
I was feeling very happy that I managed to get some hair clips for the gals at one of the normal shops, until I came across a push cart shop that sold the same things for much cheaper! Wa..angry siah..hate being kena cheated!!
Anyway, we bought a necklace each at 'Vincci'. The salesgirl at the counter suggested that we paid together so that we could be entittled to a RM$10 voucher. We explained to her that we were not locals and that the voucher would not be practical for us...but she said she could not give us direct discount or allow us to use the voucher for this purchase. Cheng Leng then suggested that we should take the voucher and see if there were any items at RM$10. Smart right?! So after paying we went to look around and I found a pair of sweet lil' earrings that cost RM#13.50. We went to the counter and happily wanted to pay. Scarli the same salesgirl told us that we had to purchase RM$20 and above before we could utilise the voucher! !@# Then I spotted another necklace which cost RM$19.90 but they still insist that they could not make an exception for us! Angry right! I mean the salesgirl at the counter should have told us earlier when she knew we were not locals so that we could make adjustments to our purchase lor!!!
I didn't manage to buy anything else...though I was very very tempted to return to 'Vinnci' to buy the necklace that I liked...but decided against it once I thought about the poor service...
Other lost buys: there was no more stock for the Dorothy Perkins top i wanted; saw a beautiful yellow-stone ring at Topshop but they did not have small size. The large size was so big that I can't even fit it on my thumb!! A pair of Nine-West heels that cost only S$60 after discount but they had only the last piece on display which was abit faulty....
We were waiting for cab to return to the hostel when we spotted a rainbow! Beautiful!!
Thankfully we did not have to wait long for a cab...but there was a slight jam on the way back though....and the cab fare cost only RM$10; cheaper than the earlier green cab!! So Kat was right!! We should only take those RED cabs!!
Anyway we had to hop on to another cab soon after we collected our luggage from the hotel. The journey to the airport was ONE hour! I handed RM$80 to the driver (we were advised by the hostel staff that it should cost around RM$70 to RM$80); and he actually had the audacity to ask for RM$90! We insisted that we would pay only RM$80 and he relectantly went away. I was thinking that he was damn lucky that we hadn't decided to pay him RM$70!!
Check-in was pretty smooth, at least smoother than what we expected, but we had to take the terminal train to the departure hall. Luckily we did not believe the hotel staff we told us that there was no need to take the train unlike when we arrived. We also had lotsa trouble looking for the escalator in the airport!! We had wanted to go to the 2nd floor to have dinner!! Guess what..all the escalators were at the back of the stretch of hall...obscure and hidden and the sign that pointed towards the escalator was the 'fork and spoon' sign which symbolised 'food'...Wah! I mean although it is true that we would be able to find food once we fould the escalator to go up to the 2nd floor...but shouldn't they indicate the escalator sign instead??!!! Faint right!!
Reached Singapore Airport at 10.30pm. We went to the DFS shop happily wanting to buy liquor..sigh...after we were ready with our purchase, we were told that we would not be allowed to buy DFS items because ours was a direct flight from Malaysia!! I ddn't know there was this rule!! So sad can!!
Anyway enjoy the photos..
