Hong Kong and Macau 23/01/08 to 30/01/08 (Part 3)

Day 3 - 25/01/08: Disneyland at Sunny Bay (迪士尼·欣澳) and Tung Chung (东涌)

It was a rainy day; but we had only this day to go Disneyland because we don't want to go during the weekend.

I thought I don't need my shawl and gloves as I wore SO many layers of clothes...but I was WRONG!! It was COLD!!

Took the MTR to disneyland. The disneyland trains are special, with chrome disney characters in the cabins even the passenger handles and windows are in cuts-out of mickey and minnie's faces! Pretty!

There are 4 themes to the park - Main Street, Adventure Land, Fantasy Land and Tomorrow Land.

Of course we had to start with the Main Street.

1. Main Streeet

6 attractions in Main Street - (a) The Disneyland Story, (b) Mickey's House, (c) Animation Academy, (d) Disneyland Railway, (e) High School Musical and (f) Main Street Vehicles

(a) Story of Disney unfolds at the Disneyland Story. Also detailed how disneyland came to HK.

(b) Mickey's House - as the name suggests, it's Mickey's house lor. Everything is so cartoony. Did not go in as we had wanted to make it one of our last stops; since the main purpose was to take pictures and we didn't want to waste too much time on that first! Sigh...we didn't make it back... read on and find out why!

(c) Animation Academy - an artist teaches the right way to draw mickey and minnie mouse. Me don't have much talent in drawning so it was not interesting for me!

(d) Disneyland Railway ride gives a tour around the entire disneyland. Can hardly miss this as it's a big train and situated right at the entrance of Main Street. We wanted to take the train but as it was at the main entrance, it was not logical for us to walk back after walking through entire Main Street. If we take the train first, we would land up in Fantasy Land without walking through the Main Street. So we decided that this shall be our last stop at night after we had toured the entire place on foot; just like to round things up as we also did not want to catch everything on the train in just a glimpse without exploring around on foot first! Sigh again as we did not make it back at night...again read on to find out why!

(e) High School Musical LIVE! This is the group's name. Dance and songs performances were put up and featuress hits from movies. Didn't come to disneyland to watch concert so didn't bother to go.

(f) Main Street Vehicles. Too lazy to walk? Then breeze down Main Street with quaint yet cool vehicles. We prefer to walk!

2. Adventure Land

There are 4 attractions - (a) Festival of the Lion King, (b) Rafts and Tarzan's Treeshouse, (c) Jungle River Cruise and (d) Liki Tikis.

(a) Did not go to the Festival of the Lion King. It is a music and dance show inspired by 'The Lion King'. I am not interested in that so decided to give it a miss.

(b) The Rafts and Tarzan's Treehouse was quite fun. I am sure it would be MORE fun minus the rain. We had to take a raft to the treehouse where the story of tarzan evolve. Wonderful view from up above the tree!

On the raft to Tarzan's treehouse!

That was not the rain; that was the waterfall :)

Views of the raft from Tarzan's treehouse

Tarzan

(c) I enjoyed the Jungle River Cruise. However the queue was quite long and we had to wait for awhile. Quite alot of surprises awaits along the river!!

Look at the silly person; the one on the left of course! On the sampan during the Jungle River Cruise. I like the cruise; quite fun and lots of surprises :P

Is this real?!

(d) There was nothing much at Liki Tikis; mainly for children. Blasts of water springs out according to rythem of drums.

3. Fantasy Land

The attractions here are situated closer to each other. 12 attractions in Fantasy Land - (a) Mickey's PhilharMagic, (b) Dumbo the Flying Elephant, (c) Cinderella Carousel, (d) Sword in the Stone, (e) Fantasy Land Train Station, (f) The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, (g) Sleeping Beauty Castle, (h) Fantasyland Gardens, (i) The Golden Mickeys, (j) Snow White Grotto, (k) It's a Small World and (l) Mad Hatter Tea Cup

(a) Mickey's PhilharMagic - I luurrvveee it! I like the dazzling 3-D presentation! Cute and fun!

(b) Dumbo the Flying Elephant - for kiddos la! But we also took it!! Cool! Been so long since I took dumbo!!

(c) Cinderella Carousel!! I had wanted to ride this but the queue was sooooooooooo long! Can't remember the last time I rode on a merry-go-round! :(

(d) Sword in the Stone - it is supposed to be a magical sword. I've never heard of the story before. Since it an attraction then just take a picture lor!

(e) Fantasy Land Train Station - The train that comes from Main Street and stops at Fantasy Land.

(f) The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Winnie goes in search of hunny. The queue was super long and the ride is really not worth the wait! Only looked interesting on the outside. Should have taken the carousel ride and gone to The Sleeping Beauty Castle instead! :((

(g) The Sleeping Beauty Castle - This is my BIGGEST the regret! Had no time for this after The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh as we had to rush to the Fantasy Gardens to take pictures with Mickey and Minnie, to Tomorrow Land and then to watch the fireworks.

(h) Fantasy Land Gardens - where we can take pictures with the disney characters. There were Mickey and Minnie, Chips and Dale, Donald and Daisy, Winnie the Pooh. We only managed to take pictures with Mickey and Minnie as all the characters appear AND disappear at the same time! They should stagger the timings of their appearance!

(i) The Golden Mickeys is a musical extravaganza honouring disney films. Well we really have no time for this!

(j) Snow White Grotto is a wishing well; a tribute to Walt Disney Snow White. No time to make a wish!

(k) It's a Small World allows you to set sail via a boat ride to view different toys and dolls representing cultures in the world, including 38 Disney characters. It will open in Apr 08.

(l) Magic Hatter Tea Cup. Another childhood ride!! But no time for that! :

4. Tomorrow Land

6 attractions here - (a) Space Mountain, (b) Autopia, (c) Stitch Encounter, (d) Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters (e) UFO Zone, (f) Orbitron

(a) I like the Space Mountain ride!! Actually we did not know what the ride was all about until the ride started! It was roller coaster in outer space! Cool! I would have rode it another time if not for time constrain!! :(

Picture taken off the TV screen where they show your picture and you can choose if you want to buy it! So ex don't want to buy!

(b) Autopia. A car ride on a fake highway! :P Quite enjoyable. Don't have to drive the car because it travels according to the track; but still must control the acceleration and turnings so that we would not bump against the tracks and car in front!

(c) Stitch Encounter - Don't like the character so gave it a miss!

(d) Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters - Space Ranger is here to save the universe. But no time to play!

(e) UFO Zone - water adventure blasting from machines! Anyway too cold and no time to play!

(f) Orbitron - rockers and jets spinning high! A different version of the dumbo elephant?! Would have loved to play this but we had to rush to watch the highlight of the park - fireworks!!

Highlight of the park - Disney in the Stars Fireworks at Fantasy Land!! Can't get any good picture of the fireworks though :(

Was so hungry after the fire works and caught sight of the so cute mickey biscults! Of course cannot miss eating that! My only regret is not buying more to eat the next day!!

By the time we finished eating it was already nearly 8pm. No time to return to House of Mickey and take the train around the park! :(

No choice since we wanted to go to Tung Chung to shop at the factory outlets.

Ate macarroni cheese at the food court at Tung Chung. Quite yummy! Bought a CK jacket at one of the factory outlets. Very cheap and it's white - what I've wanted for some time! Saw a pair of addidas shoes that I like alot at the addidas outlet but thought I would buy it back in Singapore so that I can use the $100 subsidy from office; but can't find it in Singapore leh :(

Initially we also wanted to take the cable car to the big buddha before we head to Disneyland but decided against it as we reckoned that we should spend more time at Disneyland since we paid so much to get in!! Luckily we went to Disneyland because as it was we did not have enough time to finish exploring the whole park! Anyway we did not plan to return on another day just for the cable car and the buddha as it's quite out of the way; unless we really have no where to go; but I seriously doubt so! It's Hong Kong, where got time to purely sightsee?!
