Collected my medical report yesterday afternoon. Everything is normal except for the BLOOD.
Doctor said my red blood cell indices are a little on the low side. He said it could possibly be the initial stage of iron deficiency or mild thalassemia. Mild thalassemia means I am just a carrier and I will not have any health implications.
So he suggested that I do another blood test to confirm. It was my 3rd blood test and at this stage I think I am no longer afraid of doing blood test. Anyway it was not that painful la! :) But I hope I do not have to do anymore blood test for a long time to come.
Ok anyway, results will be out in 2 weeks.
I have had experience with a thalassemia patient. She was a resident in SGH. She was pregnant and she had to undergo an abortion because both she and her boyfriend were thalassemia carriers. Hence, it was of very high possibility that the baby would be a major thalassemia patient and would require blood transfusion throughout life. Doctors had adviced them to abort the baby.
So I considered myself lucky because even if I am a carrier, my hubby is not. And even if unfortunately our children are carriers, we just have to ensure that they do not marry another person who is a carrier.
But choi choi choi...maybe it's just iron deficiency lor!!
